BOULLANGER (Charles-Pierre). Nouvelle mappe monde dédiée au progrès de nos connoissances.
Paris, Charles Dien, [1781] - [45,5 x 64,8 cm avec texte] .
An unusual projection for this elegant world map by Boullanger, engineer of the King, and hydrographer during Péron and Freycinet’s expedition to the South Australian coasts between 1800 and 1804.
Based on the work of the Académie Royale des Sciences, it shows the hemispheres rotated at 45 degrees and the prime meridian through Paris. The floral border was made by Choffard. The map was reissued by Santini and Remondini in 1784 in Venice.
Tooley (Revised edition), pp. 173 ; Portinaro, p. 291 (Santini’s issue).
